Minoan Lotus Shrine by Zenovía
As an artist, I combine techniques of the psychedelic “glue artists” of the 1960s in northern CA (who later became known as "Assemblage" artists), assemblage, mosaics, and memoryware. I like to describe my work as “my Greek Orthodox grandmothers home altars meet the era of psychedelic glue art”, the results being spiritual in nature but light and joyful.
The candlelit shrines that I create are largely inspired by my grandmothers' home altars and home altars everywhere and range from Christian and other cultures to non-denominational shrines honoring the gardens, music, nature, or the seashore.
Common objects such as rolling pins and wooden spoons are preserved, sanctified, and transformed by being adorned with mirror, vintage jewels, icons, shells, stones, beads, vintage and re-cycled treasures along with newer ingredients. This creates radiant reflected color, light, and energy, reminding us how the ordinary can be extraordinary, and that nourishment and inspiration come in many forms.
Each indoor piece is an object of beauty in itself and the shrines can be candlelit and used as a focal point for prayer and meditation and to remind us to center ourselves, connect to our source, and feel the joy, delight, and mystery in our everyday lives.
I give special thanks to my ancestors; my grandmothers; both my earthly and divine mothers Mary; and to the late Lois Anderson, my longtime friend, student, client, teacher and prominent pioneering "glue" assemblage artist in CA, for inspiring me.
Zenovia, a professional in the field of Healing Arts for over 40 years, brings her knowledge and spirituality from various folk traditions including her Greek background and Witchcraft to create these inspiring tools. She is a licensed Intuitive Reader; Certified Aromatherapist, Energy and Bodyworker; a Priestess; teacher of Sacred Belly Dance Movement classes as well as being an Assemblage Artist.
Also available are her handmade Blessing Bottles and Pendulums.
Pendulums have been used for centuries as a Divining tool to assist in answering life questions.
Blessing Bottles (also known as Spell or Prayer bottles) are a folk magic tradition made with specific intentions and prayers for Love (self-love, romantic love, universal love), Luck (for money and abundance of what your intentions are) and also can be custom made for specific purposes. They contain specific herbs, resins, gemstones and symbolic charms together with prayer and intention to assist the owner in their life journey. Keep it on your altar or nearby to amplify your intentions. A Blessing bottle is sealed and should never be opened!
